What should I ask a ceramic coating installer before comparing prices?
Ask which product is being applied, what paint preparation is included, which surfaces are coated and whether additional correction is needed. Request a vehicle-specific scope so you can compare the same work between shops.
At STL Auto Defenders, every coating option includes paint, exterior trim, wheel faces and glass. Wheels-off coating is a separate option. Tell us if the car has existing PPF, a previous coating, a repaint or finish damage; those details can change preparation. Our packages page lists current starting prices, but we confirm the final quote before work begins.
How can I tell whether the preparation fits my paint?
Ask for an inspection before agreeing to the correction work. A new car can still need preparation, while older paint can have defects that polishing will not safely remove. The useful question is what your finish needs, rather than how many polishing stages appear in a package name.
Our process starts with paint analysis, washing and decontamination. We agree on suitable correction, remove polishing residue and panel-prep before applying the coating. Ask to see the paint under inspection lighting and discuss remaining chips or deeper scratches. Coating does not repair those defects or prevent future rock chips.
Which installation photos should I ask to see?
Look for real work showing preparation and close-up finishes, along with completed vehicles. Photos should help explain the work you are buying. A reflection photo by itself cannot confirm the product, correction scope or included surfaces.
Our coating service page shows wheels-off preparation and a completed Tesla Model 3 that combined PPF, ceramic tint and ceramic coating. Its project story explains the actual coverage. Use those examples to ask about your own vehicle rather than assuming every photographed car received the same package.
Who installs the coating, and who handles questions afterward?
Confirm who performs the work and how to reach the shop if you have a concern after pickup. Our automotive protection work is owner-installed, with experience since 2003. You can discuss the vehicle and preparation directly with us.
Before booking, ask how the finish will be checked, what pickup instructions you will receive and how to report a mark or washing concern. Keep the written scope and care guidance. If something looks wrong, contact the installer and send clear photos before polishing the surface or trying an unfamiliar chemical.
Does a longer coating package automatically mean a better choice?
Choose around how you use and maintain the vehicle, the preparation required and the written product terms. Ask about any inspection requirements and ongoing care instead of treating the duration label as the whole comparison.
Tell us whether the vehicle lives outside, how you wash it and how long you plan to keep it. Coating supports gloss and easier cleaning; it still needs maintenance. If road-debris impacts are the main concern, discuss PPF for exposed panels, with coating serving a separate role in the overall protection plan.
How should Imperial and Barnhart drivers plan a coating appointment?
Send the year, make and model, your town or ZIP code, paint photos and any existing protection before making the trip. We install at our Arnold shop and confirm the preparation, quote, drop-off and pickup arrangements directly.
Include photos of swirls, water marks, damaged paint or aftermarket wheels and tell us whether you want to combine services. Ask about the care instructions and initial washing restrictions so you can plan around them. Confirm timing for your particular job rather than assuming all coatings can be installed and collected on the same schedule.
