From our shop: Camaro ZL1 paint preparation and protection

This Camaro ZL1 received paint correction, Full Front clear bra and ceramic coating. We removed the center carbon-fiber section to achieve full PPF coverage and a clean, seamless installation. Paint correction prepared the finish, while film and coating served different protection and care needs.

Is a small DIY piece the same challenge as a full bumper?

No. A small, accessible area and a sculpted bumper can present very different fitting challenges. Curves, recesses, openings and edges all influence how much planning and practice a piece requires.

Look beyond the square footage of film. Consider access, the shape of the panel and how expensive a failed piece would be to replace. We can quote selected areas if a complete front package is outside your current budget.

What should happen before any film touches the paint?

The finish needs inspection and appropriate preparation. Film will not undo chips, failing clear coat or every scratch. Existing damage and repaint history should be disclosed before installation.

At our shop we discuss condition and coverage first, then prepare for the chosen work. If correction or a repair needs attention, that should be explained before the film hides access to the surface. A new-car delivery date is not proof the paint is ready.

Does a computer-cut pattern finish the job automatically?

No. A pattern provides a starting shape. Placement, alignment, contamination control and edge finishing still require installation skill. An accurate cut is valuable, but it does not replace careful work.

We use computer-cut patterns and do not cut on the paint. We discuss where wrapping is practical and where the film will end. That makes the finished boundaries something you understand before collection, rather than a surprise afterward.

What if I find trapped contamination or a lifting edge?

Do not start trimming, gluing or heating it without advice. Send clear photos and identify the panel. The appropriate response depends on what is happening, how recently it was installed and the condition of the film.

Support after installation belongs in the buying decision. Ask who performs the work, who checks the edges and who you contact with a concern. Keep your invoice and written product terms rather than assuming every kit or installation offers the same support.

What should I compare in a professional quote?

Compare the exact panels, preparation, edge treatment, expected timing and written warranty terms. A partial hood and a full hood are different scopes even if both estimates say front protection.

Our typical PPF process allows two to three days for preparation, installation, drying and edge checks, with timing confirmed for the job. Kris handles the installation. Send year, make, model, paint history and coverage priorities for a vehicle-specific estimate.
