STL Auto Defenders installed paint protection film (PPF) on the upper areas of a brand-new firetruck for the local Rock Community Fire Protection District. The goal was straightforward: help protect painted surfaces prone to scratches and abrasion while preserving the truck’s appearance.

This was targeted coverage—not a full-body wrap. We focused on the upper areas selected for protection, fitting the film to the surfaces that needed an additional barrier. The photos in this article document the actual truck and our hands-on installation.

Why protect a brand-new firetruck?

Protection is not just for sports cars. A working vehicle has its own wear points, and a firetruck’s upper surfaces present a very different coverage challenge than the hood and bumper of a passenger car. The right plan starts with how the vehicle is used, rather than a one-size-fits-all package.

For this project, scratches and abrasion on the upper areas were the priority. PPF adds a physical layer over the covered paint to help reduce direct contact with the finish. It does not make a surface scratch-proof or prevent every type of damage, but it can provide a useful sacrificial barrier in the areas it covers.

Targeted coverage, careful installation

The installation photos show film being worked across upper painted side panels beneath the diamond-plate trim. Large surfaces, edges and surrounding hardware require close attention to fit and finish. Our focus was to protect the selected areas without distracting from the truck’s distinctive lime-green and black appearance.

That hands-on care is central to how we work. STL Auto Defenders is a husband-and-wife team based in Arnold, Missouri, with roots in automotive care going back to 2003. The owner is directly involved in the installation—not simply passing the vehicle to an outside PPF installer.

A local project we’re proud to share

We are grateful for the opportunity to work on a vehicle that serves our own community. Completing a project for Rock Community Fire Protection District is meaningful to us as a local business in Jefferson County.

Rather than asking you to take a general quality claim at face value, we want to show the work: the vehicle, the surfaces and the installation details. This project is an example of work we completed for a local organization; it is not an official endorsement or a claim of an ongoing exclusive partnership.

What this means for your new car or work vehicle

The same starting question applies to a firetruck, a daily driver or a company vehicle: which surfaces take the most abuse? On a passenger vehicle, a full-front PPF package typically focuses on the hood, front fenders, bumper, headlights and mirror caps. A work vehicle may need a different plan based on its painted surfaces and contact points.

For drivers in Arnold, Imperial, Oakville, Mehlville and the wider St. Louis area, we can help compare targeted coverage with more extensive options. If you are protecting a new car, you can also explore window tinting for cabin comfort and ceramic coatings for easier exterior care. These services address different needs; a coating does not replace the physical barrier of PPF.

Questions about firetruck and fleet PPF

Was the whole firetruck covered?

No. This installation focused on the upper areas prone to scratches and abrasion. Coverage was selected for this specific vehicle.

Can PPF be installed on a commercial vehicle?

PPF can be considered for suitable painted surfaces on commercial and specialty vehicles. We review the finish, surface condition, access and intended use before recommending coverage.

How much does a project like this cost?

Specialty-vehicle coverage requires a custom quote. The size, shape, condition and selected surfaces affect the material and installation time. Passenger-car package pricing should not be treated as a firetruck estimate.
